Description

In good condition, complete set. Includes an extra Proof Canadian Dollar. Some toning on coins. The 1997 Canadian Proof Set of coinage by the Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) is highly sought after by collectors. It is notable for two massive milestones: the introduction of the new $2 "Toonie" coin and the 25th anniversary of the 1972 Canada-USSR Hockey Series. Coin Count: This was the first year the Double Dollar Proof sets were expanded to 8 coins (from the penny to the $2 coin) to accommodate the newly introduced $2 Polar Bear coin. Commemorative Dollar: The centerpiece of this set is a special edition $20 or $1 Silver Dollar commemorating the 25th anniversary of the legendary Summit Series. The reverse features a hockey design. Features a frosted cameo finish on all coins. The silver dollar is sterling silver, and select sets include partial gold plating on the $2 coin or the dollar. Over time, these silver coins may naturally develop light toning, which is typical for sterling silver and does not reduce their numismatic value.
