Description

magnificent, highly detailed late 19th-century Italian genre scene hand-painted on a porcelain plaque by the noted Florentine artist Aurelio Innocenti. Titled "Non l'accende..." ("He does not light it..."), the charming composition depicts an endearing, humorous interaction between an elderly gentleman holding a pipe and a young child by his side. Innocenti’s mastery of the difficult porcelain medium is on full display here, capturing vibrant tones, lifelike expressions, and intricate interior textures that remain beautifully preserved. Frame & Presentation: The porcelain plaque is housed in its original, exceptionally ornate, deeply carved turn-of-the-century gilt gesso and wood frame -frame is not perfect due to age. The heavy, gold-leafed scrollwork provides a dramatic, exhibition-quality presentation that perfectly complements the artwork. Incredible Documented Provenance: The reverse side of the piece features invaluable historical documentation, including the artist's handwritten title signature, location ("Aurelio Innocenti R.p. Firenze Italia"), and a secure wax seal. Crucially, a well-preserved family provenance label reads: “Purchased by John A. McEwen (my father's brother) about 1904.” This firmly establishes a rock-solid, 120+ year continuous history of ownership, verifying its authenticity and era. Condition Report: • Porcelain Plaque: Excellent vintage condition. Free of hairline cracks, chips, repairs, or glaze separation. Colors remain bright and crisp.
