Description

This exquisite vintage tea trio is an E.J.D. Bodley "Bamboo" pattern set, manufactured in Burslem, Staffordshire, England during the Aesthetic Movement of the late 19th century. Pattern: Introduced around 1879, this rare pattern features high-relief ceramic borders modeled after stalks of bamboo, coupled with delicately hand-painted gold gilt foliage and branches. Shape: This distinctive hexagonal geometric layout is heavily influenced by Anglo-Japanese and oriental styles popular during the Aesthetic Period, which rejected traditional rounded shapes in favor of striking angular silhouettes. Maker: Edwin James Drew Bodley operated out of the Hill Pottery (later the Crown Works) between 1875 and 1892. His pieces are highly collectible today for their elegant minimalism and nature-inspired motifs.
