Up for auction is a charming pair of vintage, hand-crafted Canadian folk art bird sculptures, both beautifully preserved and originating from prominent mid-century Ontario carvers. • Item 1: Modernist Dual Bird Sculpture by Imants Grantins An elegant, stylized natural-wood sculpture featuring a pair of abstract shorebirds or hummingbirds gracefully perched on a dark, rustic driftwood base. The underside retains its original metallic maker's label: "By Imants Grantins, Lake St. Peter, Ontario." Grantins (1938–2019) was a celebrated Ontario artisan well-known for his clean, modernist lines and high-quality woodwork. • Item 2: Hand-Painted Chickadee Figurine by D. Phillips (1968) A meticulously detailed, hand-carved and hand-painted Black-capped Chickadee perched on a natural tree-branch mount. The underside features the artist's original handwritten markings: "Chickadee, D. Phillips, Green River, Ont., 1968." Specifications & Condition: • Material: Assorted premium Canadian hardwoods and natural root/driftwood bases. • Dimensions: The dual-bird sculpture spans approximately 6"–7" wide, while the chickadee stands roughly 5" tall. • Condition: Excellent vintage condition with wonderful coloration, clean wood grain, and minimal surface wear consistent with age. Original labels and historic inscriptions are intact on both bases. Perfect addition to any Canadian folk art collection!
