Description

Nabeshima ware (Nabeshima-yaki) is widely considered the absolute pinnacle and most prestigious form of Japanese porcelain. Originating as an unusually high-quality subset of Arita ware (also referred to broadly as Imari ware), it was produced strictly for the ruling Nabeshima clan of the Saga Domain during the Edo Period. Unlike common commercial pottery meant for everyday use or European export, these pieces were crafted in absolute secrecy and reserved exclusively as presentation gifts for the shogun, royalty, and feudal lords. This pattern is known as Boys catching butterflies. Includes a large pot with lid and a Buddha statue.
