The two brass buttons for a tunic are immediately post civil war but are not Civil War. I do not know the school. The cadet in the photo went to as I do not recognize the crest on his Kepi.  The photo was about 4 1/2 inches like 6 1/2 inches and dates to the same period is the buttons.
