Traditional Chinese Yixing clay teaware in a gift box. This type of unglazed stoneware is made from unique clay deposits found near the city of Yixing in China's Jiangsu Province. Key features of Yixing teaware: Xixing teapots are typically smaller than their Western counterparts and are used for the gongfu style of brewing, which involves shorter steeping durations and smaller cups. The unglazed, slightly porous clay absorbs the tea's natural oils and flavors over time, which "seasons" the pot. For this reason, a single Yixing pot is traditionally used for only one type of tea.
