Description

heavy-duty, vintage Beaver Model 3400 cast-iron wood lathe, manufactured by the historic The Callander Foundry & Mfg. Co. Ltd. out of Guelph, Ontario, Canada. Known for their incredibly robust, post-WWII craftsmanship, these lathes are highly sought after by vintage machinery enthusiasts and woodworking hobbyists alike. This is an early production model featuring the original, highly desirable embossed oval black and silver "Beaver Power Tools" badge right on the headstock. It comes mounted on a custom, extra-sturdy wooden workshop bench that helps minimize vibration during turning. Specifications & Included Features: • Model: Beaver 3400 Wood Lathe • Construction: Full cast-iron bed, headstock, and tailstock • Capacity: Roughly 34" to 36" between centers with an 11" to 12" swing over the bed • Headstock: Equipped with a standard threaded spindle and a functional drill chuck • Tailstock: Fully adjustable with a handwheel and a locking lever mechanism • Tool Rest: Includes the original matching iron banjo base and tool rest bar • Drive System: Mounted step-pulley system for variable speed adjustment • Motor Assembly: Includes a heavy-duty vintage electric motor wired with a period-correct metal electrical switch box and safety housing Condition: The cast iron is in excellent structural shape with no cracks or damage. It retains its authentic, weathered workshop patina. The mechanical components (tailstock movement, spindle rotation, and locking levers) all move freely. Seller Note on Wiring: The main power plug has a split outer rubber casing exposing the inner structural fabric insulation. The buyer should strip and replace the power cord before plugging it in for regular operation. Perfect project for a total restoration or as an immediate vintage centerpiece for a functional woodshop! Local pickup only due to the substantial weight of the cast iron and custom workbench.
