Description

Royal Worcester porcelain cabinet plates featuring a heavily gilded, square-scalloped rim and a vibrant hand-painted floral centerpiece. The Artist: Ernest Barker was a prominent painter for Royal Worcester during the late 19th and early 20th centuries (active primarily from the 1890s to the 1930s). While he is very well known for his detailed countryside scenes featuring Highland sheep or naturalistic British birds (like the Bullfinch), he also executed stunningly vibrant, formal floral compositions. Royal Worcester utilized a highly precise, secret-code system of shapes and dots to denote production years. Below the crown, there are three small interlaced circles surrounded by nine tiny dots. This specific configuration denotes the final year of the shape-code era: 1941.The Pattern Number: Handwritten in red script to the upper-left of the main mark is the code C1167. This is the factory designation for this specific style of high-end, heavily encrusted 22ct gold scroll border with a cobalt blue ground overlaying a custom shape.
