An authentic late 19th to early 20th-century French Art Nouveau figural table or accent lamp titled "La Veillée du Forgeron" (The Blacksmith’s Evening Watch), cast from the original sculpture by celebrated Belgian artist Victor Rousseau (1865–1954). This highly detailed spelter (regule) piece depicts a muscular blacksmith at his forge, working over an anvil and vice mechanism. The casting features an exceptional dark green and bronzed patina. Markings & Authenticity: • Front Plaque: Features the original brass title plate reading "LA VEILLÉE Par Rousseau (Sculpt)" attached to the multi-tiered red/brown faux-marbelized wood base. • In-Cast Signature: The artist's signature "V. ROUSSEAU" is clearly inscribed directly into the side of the rocky spelter terrain. • Foundry Stamp: The rear of the base bears the highly desirable, circular "Fabrication Française - Paris - Made in France" foundry emblem, verifying its historic Parisian production. Dimensions: • Total Height: Approximately 19 inches to the top of the rear pillar hood. • Base Width: Approx. 9.5 inches across the widest tier. Condition Report: • Structural Damage: There is a visible, clean stress crack/separation line in the spelter white metal base casting, located directly behind the anvil’s vertical support post. The sculpture remains firmly attached to its base, but this area should be handled with care. • Aesthetic Wear: The multi-tiered wooden base shows age-appropriate finish wear, scuffs, and paint flaking along the edges, revealing the wood beneath. The spelter figure retains a beautiful aged patina with minimal rubbing to the high points. • Electrical: Features a vintage push-button switch and rear wiring. The lamp mechanism is untested and, as with all early vintage or antique lighting, upgrading to modern wiring before regular household use is recommended. Sold as-found. Please review the detailed photos closely to evaluate the crack in the base casting and the overall cosmetic condition before bidding.
