Original antique cast-iron counter / balance scale manufactured by E. & T. Fairbanks & Co., as identified by the raised FAIRBANKS lettering cast into the front of the base. This example retains its original configuration with: - one large brass scoop pan - one smaller round iron platform with original cast-iron beam and pivot arms - original red painted base and uprights The scale is of classic Fairbanks counter form, designed for shop and trade use. The cast base is heavy and stable, with the balance mechanism mounted above on the original supports. All components shown are present and appear original to the scale. This is offered strictly as a decorative and collectible antique scale. No weights are included. Condition Report: Structurally solid Original red paint present with heavy wear, losses, and surface oxidation Brass scoop pan shows dents, surface scratches, darkening, and age patina Iron platform shows heavy paint loss and surface rust Balance beam and pivots are present; movement was not tested for calibration or accuracy No cracks observed in the cast base No breaks or modern repairs observed Overall condition: good, original antique condition with heavy cosmetic wear from use and age.
