Description

Up for auction is a beautifully preserved classic piece of marine engineering: a 1959 Johnson Sea-Horse 3 HP outboard motor (Model JW-15, Serial No. 285250). This iconic, portable two-stroke engine was manufactured by Johnson Motors in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. It serves as an excellent candidate for a winter restoration project, a nostalgic display piece for a cabin or bar, or a classic runner for vintage boat enthusiasts. Key Features & Details: • Year & Model: 1959 Johnson JW-15 • Horsepower: 3 HP • Origin: Made in Peterborough, Canada • Included: Comes with the scarce, highly collectible original paper operating instructions manual. • Aesthetics: Retains its historic cream and red graphic styling with period-accurate front-facing mixture control dials (Slow Speed / High Speed knobs) and an integrated top gas tank. Condition Notes: • Cosmetics: Shows an authentic vintage patina with minor surface wear, dirt, and paint scuffs consistent with its age. The housing graphics and metal model tag are exceptionally clear and legible. • Mechanicals: Untested. The motor has been sitting in storage; it pulls over smoothly. As with all vintage outboards, it will likely require a standard carburetor cleaning, fresh spark plugs, and a new water pump impeller before attempting to run.
