July’s Biggest Auction Trends
One of the best things about following auction results is seeing patterns emerge across completely different homes, cities, and categories. July’s results came from auctions across Ontario, Massachusetts, British Columbia, Rhode Island, Washington and Texas.

While precious metals continued to perform strongly, some of the month’s most interesting results came from vintage furniture, nostalgic collectibles, older technology, and items that could easily have been overlooked. Every item featured below began at just $1. The prices shown are where competitive bidding ultimately took them.

Recap
Gold and sterling silver once again attracted strong bidding consistent with prior months.
The Stieff sterling flatware collection sold for USD $1,950, while several smaller jewelry lots reached between $255 and $940. Recognizable names also mattered: a Longines wristwatch sold for CAD $740, while a Tiffany & Co. silver bracelet reached USD $370. But July wasn’t only about precious metals.
Mid-century design continued to stand out. A wood-frame lounge chair and ottoman sold for $635, while a pair of vintage Martz stoneware lamps reached USD $515. Even traditional china performed well, with Minton and Royal Worcester sets selling for $335 and $290.
Nostalgia also brought bidders out. Vintage Dungeons & Dragons books and homemade quests sold for USD $345. A collection of Star Trek memorabilia reached USD $170, and an antique phonograph and Victrola sold for CAD $336.
Perhaps the most interesting result was a vintage library card catalogue that sold for USD $411. It’s exactly the kind of item that may appear obsolete at first glance but becomes highly desirable when the right buyers see it.
That’s why $1 starting bids work so well in estate auctions. A low opening price encourages participation, attracts more watchers, and gives bidders a reason to engage early. As interest builds, the market—not the seller’s assumptions—determines the final value.
Why Sellers are Switching to BidRush
Sellers prefer fair fees (offset fees entirely, or add more revenue to their business by way of keeping 100% of the buyer's premium), specialized marketing (that drives leads to their business directly) and tools designed around their workflow (like editing while auction is live, direct access to buyer contact info).
